Attendance Update: Early Departure and Bus Passes
Dear Parent and Carers,
As a College we proud of the outstanding improvements to learning outcomes for students in 2023. This has been based on a consistent approach to classroom expectation and high expectations for learning success. This strong focus on learning has supported students at VCE to excel and achieve outstanding results with a mean VCE study score of 31, and Year 7 & 9 NAPLAN results exceeding state, similar and network schools.
A core part of our improvement strategy is improving attendance. We know that regular attendance is paramount in supporting student learning, relationships and success at school. Our College is focussed on minimising disruptions to the continuity of learning across all year levels.
In 2024 we are providing clarity for parents and carers around student attendance and in particular, early departure from school. Our responsibility for student wellbeing and our duty of care, extends well beyond the school boundary and because of this we are reluctant to issue students with early departure passes. This reluctance is for 3 core reasons,
- the disruption to learning
- the impact it has on teachers and peers learning and
- ensuring that we meet our duty of care
In 2024, there have been unprecedented numbers of students, parents and carers requesting an early leavers ‘bus pass’. Students will only be allocated a ‘bus pass’ where they are required to access the Skye 3:07pm or the Pearcedale 3:05pm bus. This bus pass allows students to be dismissed from class at 2:55pm, I note that these students will be required to remain in the bus bay which is supervised area of the College. If your student is required to access either the Skye or Pearcedale bus you are asked to read and complete the following google form:
Where a student is required to leave school early for any other reason, their parent or carer must sign them ‘out’ via compass or student services. I thank you in advance for your understanding and support. We are committed to providing the best learning environments and experiences for students so that they excel in their learning and can access their pathway to success.
Kind Regards,
DeanÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý Ewan Humphrey

Buses do stop in and around the College for students who don’t live within close proximity to the College. Even though these buses stop within the College they are not run by or are affiliated in any way with the College and are Public Transport Victoria (PTV) run buses. This means all students must carry their own MYKI card with sufficient funds to purchase tickets. MYKI cards can be purchased online from the PTV website, via the PTV app or at an authorised MYKI retailer. If families have any queries regarding buses that run in and around the college we recommend calling the following numbers for assistance:
- (PTV) 1800 800 007
- 5996 7333
- 9786 7088

Before and After School Supervision
Student safety at ºúÌÒÅ®Éñ is our highest priority and the safe and appropriate supervision of students is an important element of our duty of care to students. Part of this duty is ensuring parents and students are aware of our student supervision arrangements before and after school.
Before school: The ºúÌÒÅ®Éñ Bus Bay is supervised from 8am each day.
After school: The ºúÌÒÅ®Éñ Bus Bay is supervised from 3pm to 3:50pm each day.
Students on school grounds outside these times will not be supervised (unless they are attending a supervised extracurricular activity).
Parents/carers are requested to ensure that students do not attend school outside of these supervised times unless they are attending a pre-arranged supervised activity (i.e. sports practice).
Families are encouraged to contact ºúÌÒÅ®Éñ on 9788 2600 or email elisabeth.murdoch.co@education.vic.gov.au if you would like any further information about our student supervision arrangements.
For a copy of our school’s Yard Duty and Supervision Policy please contact the College’s Administration office.
Face Masks
With the cold weather having hit us, cold and flu symptoms are becoming more frequent. If you require face masks, please collect from our Front Office Administration. Please note we have run out of COVID rapid tests.
Student Behaviour Expectations
Student behaviour at the Bus bay:
Students are continuously walking on the wrong side of the safety rail when the bus is approaching the terminal- this is not acceptable behaviour and could potentially cause an accident.Ìý Students are to remain on the footpath behind the barrier at all times.
Student behaviour on the Bus:
Bus drivers have the right to stop for up to 10 mins per bus stop if students are deemed too loud on the bus which is a distraction to the drivers.Ìý Students need to RESPECT the bus driver and be quiet, if not, they will be delayed by 10 minutes until they are quiet so that the bus driver can concentrate on driving.
Pick Up and Drop Off
Do not use their car park as a pick up point in the afternoons.
The centre has a learning program that finishes at 3.00 pm and parents are unable to get a carpark to collect their children on time. It is very dangerous as all of these children are under 5 and could potentially run out into the car park.
Easy Car Wash (directly opposite the College) have also raised their concerns about parents/carers using their business as a car park. DO NOT enter the car park unless you are using their services.
Reducing Traffic Congestion
Please consider the following safe options:
- Collect your child at the Church on the corner of North Rd and Warrandyte Rd.
- Collect your child from the Langwarrin Hall on the corner of Warrandyte Rd and Cranbourne-Frankston RdÌý ensuring they cross that road following the crossing supervisors instructions.
- Suggest your child walks or rides to school if you live a close distance to the College.
- Utilise the local bus services- please see our College website page for the bus timetable.
Do NOT drop off children in the left turning lane that enters into the College – this is also a Bus bay – it is NOT a drop off zone.
Boom Gates
The boom gates are operational. Entry into the car park requires a pass.
